Kinetik Festival 5.5 has started last night.
The thursday lineup included MyParasite, Projekt F, Life Cried and closing out the night was DYM.
Since the venue is considerably smaller then the past two Kinetik Festivals, I had my doubts about how well I could use 2 flashes to light up the performers. In the end I ended up adding a 3rd light to the mix to light up the drummer on Project F and Life Cried. Worked out rather nicely.
On the right side of the stage is a brick wall. Having made the decision before leaving toronto that I would leave the light stands behind and make due, I had to make due. I placed the flash on the floor of the stage, pointing up. There some gear in the way at first (keyboard stands) but later bands took those stands away.
As the evening went on, and as the level of artificial smoke increased, the flash on the ground was putting out way too much light (even on the lowest setting) and it would light up all the fog to a bright white fog (and was used sparingly).
The left flash got clamped to some steel bars on the left side of the stage, and worked very effectively.
Equipment used was a Canon 5Dmk2, Canon 50mm f1.4, Canon 85mm f1.8, Canon 135 f2 two Canon 550EX flashes, PocketWizard FlexTT5 (x2) and MiniTT1 flash triggers and my AF Assistant.
