Neurodance 10 (a.k.a. Clockwork Ball)

Proof-Neurodance_10-5

Neurodance 10 Clockwork Ball took place at Club Neutral on 02 October 2010. The music rocked (yes, even your set Edwin) and the crowd was fantastic which makes all culminates into the photographs you see here. Couldn’t have done it without you!

Rejean and Sabrina wedding

Proof-SabrinaRejWedding-2010-08-21-18-37-49

A few weeks ago I had the privilege to witness two great friends seal their vows. The wedding was on a lovely winery in Niagara on the Lake and the food and drinks were fantastic. The pounding rain only added to the atmosphere. What a fabulous evening!

Here’s a sampling of my favorite shots from this wedding.  Continue reading »

Club shooting with a flash

After sorting through the Neurodance 09 photos, I got reminded of some things I wanted to make note of.

Shooting with a flash in clubs. The kind of shots I am usually after are emotional, expressional and conveying some feeling. Hence most of the shots are headshots or 3/4 shots. Timing the shots I found to be very tricky, in order to get the camera and flash to go off at exactly the right moment to capture that emotion. Continue reading »

Neurodance 08

Proof-Neurodance08-2010-08-08-00-30-21

Last night was Neurodance 08 at Club Neutral.

These are my favorite images from the night.

On a technical note, one thing I learned last night was that the floor at Club Neutral is quite reflective, and can be used to bounce a flash quite effectively, if there are no people blocking the bounce. In a club with so many dark (read flat black) surfaces, the floor is all I could reliably rely on. Too bad I only discovered it late in the evening.
Also, use a snoot as to make sure there is no light bleeding from the flash to the subject: all the light should be reflected. Continue reading »

DarkRave 118

Proof-DarkRave-118-2010-07-25-00-44-15

Went To DarkRave 118 last night. Brought a flash with me this time. Good thing that I did. Again the venue was way too dark.  Let this be a learning experience for me.  Always bring a flash to a dance club, if I’m shooting.

The music was great, the crowds were crazy, and I managed to get a few good shots.

Zen

Proof-Zen DJs 10July2010-2010-07-10-23-22-02

Attended Zen last night (at Nocturne Night Club), and snapped off a few shots of the DJs.

I had underestimated how dark it is in clubs. Photographing the crowd is not easy with that amount of ambient light. Next time I come out, I’ll have to bring a flash with a remote trigger. Continue reading »

To remember

Look. Really LOOK.
Keep the backgrounds clear/uncluttered.
Wait until the light hits the subject just right.
